Comic book store killer gets life sentence

The death of Barbara George affected many people, demonstrated in the more than 15 friends and family members who attended her killer’s sentencing.

But the two people who may have suffered the most from Barbara George’s death are her two daughters, Tracie and Michelle, both in their mid-20s, who weren’t in court Monday when their father, Michael George, was sentenced to life in prison without parole by circuit court Judge Mary Chrzanowski for killing their mother.

A jury last month found the 51-year-old guilty of first-degree murder, insurance fraud and possessing a firearm in a felony. His lawyer plans an appeal. It was the second trial for George, whose 2008 conviction was overturned because of errors by prosecutors.

Police said George wanted to be rid of his wife, Barbara, and collect on about $130,000 in life insurance when he fatally shot her in 1990 in their Clinton Township shop, Comics World.
